Last month, NVAA held its Annual Legislative Update featuring our lobbyist Chip Dicks who provided an overview of our efforts for the past year as we continue advocating on behalf of your interests. NVAA continued to work with the other professional real property organizations to enhance our efforts including Virginia Apartment Management Association (VAMA), the Virginia Realtors (VAR), the Home Builders Association of Virginia (HBAV), the Apartment and Office Building Association (AOBA), the and the Virginia Manufactured and Modular Housing Association (VAMMHA).

Zach LeMaster shared a preview of what the Virginia government will look like in the year ahead. Next year's election is going to be a very transformative one in the Commonwealth due to redistricting and anticipated retirement for a number of senior members. There will be a huge gap in knowledge on all issues that we will run into going forward. A new wave of people are going to be coming into the General Assembly, which means they will need to be reeducated on many issues. There could be 30-40 new house members, again transformative in the way things will work going forward.

Chip Dicks went on to discuss numerous bills, whether or not they passed, how landlords are impacted and what should be on your radar. He also discussed what we are seeing in other states that everyone should be aware of in case it pops up in Virginia as well.
