Carydale Apartments
How long have you been an NVAA member?
I’ve been a member for 5 years, but Carydale has been with NVAA since the 70s.
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in a small town in Central, Western Pennsylvania. I attended Shenandoah University before moving to Northern Virginia for work.
Tell us about your company and what you do:
Carydale Apartments is an owner and management company of multi-family housing. The company has been serving Northern Virginia for over 50 years. My role at Carydale has evolved over the years. Today I mainly focus on keeping the company compliant with the latest Human Resource and Employment Laws. I help navigate employee issues, engagement, and safety. I also work heavily in our accounting by focusing on managing our investor capital accounts, working with our CPA to file taxes, auditing our accounts, and maintaining efficiencies between our various companies.
Why are you an NVAA member?
I am a member of NVAA to continue my education in all areas related to compliance and advocacy. I love that NVAA helps fight for the Landlord while respecting the tenants. The collaboration between landlord rights and tenant rights helps to keep a healthy balance in public policy.
What do you get from your NVAA membership?
Through NVAA and the various events, NVAA puts on I have made valuable connections and friendships. I have learned how different companies in the industry operate and how to collaborate for a common goal.
What is a benefit you receive as a member of NVAA that you can’t receive anywhere else?
I cannot have my voice heard anywhere else as I do at NVAA. Through NVAA I know I am making a difference. For example, as a member of the Young Professionals Committee, I see first-hand how our Fill the Truck event helps New Hope Housing, a non-profit that works to end homelessness. Being a part of an organization that puts on events and donates to those in need is something special. To be involved with that type of event and see how many others are involved, shows me the impact this organization can have in the local area.
What is your favorite NVAA event?
This is a hard question. My favorite NVAA events are the Young Professional Happy Hours, the Golf Tournament, and the Holiday Gala. Those events are a great time to network and build lasting relationships.
What is something fun you like to do?
For fun, I like to go on walks with my husband, daughter, and dog, binge new and old TV shows, read a good book and organize. I get the most enjoyment out of dinners with close friends and a nice glass of wine, strolling Old Town Alexandria, with a stop at Pop’s Old Fashion Ice Cream Co.
