NVAA Receives ‘Best Regional Partnership’ Award
By Patrick Algyer, Executive Director, NVAA
On November 11, 2021, I traveled to Norfolk for the 2021 Virginia Governor’s Housing Conference, representing NVAA who along with partner organizations received the “Best Regional Partnership Award.” This award is given out each year to a regional effort that exemplifies how regional teamwork impacts a community for the better. To receive this award, this year really means something.
The economic fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic could have guaranteed evictions and homelessness the likes of which this country has never seen since the great depression. But that didn’t happen. Instead, organizations and people from the housing sector stepped up and pulled together the way they are supposed to do during tough times -- and that is what this award is all about.
The Northern Virginia Eviction Prevention and Community Stability Task Force, co-convened by the Northern Virginia Affordable Housing Alliance (NVAHA) and Legal Services of Northern Virginia (LSNV), includes advocates, attorneys, landlords and property owners, human service providers, and representatives of local government agencies, the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development and Senator Tim Kaine’s office.
In a time of unprecedented uncertainty, we all came together to prevent evictions and stabilize households when people needed it the most. I am proud of the work we collectively did and the outcomes we achieved.
