New Landlord/Tenant Rent Relief Program Portal

Virginia Rent Relief Program Updates

Dear RRP Stakeholders:

We have some important news to share about the Virginia Rent Relief Program (RRP) that affects all residential landlords and tenants in Virginia. Recently, you may have read that Virginia has done a better job than any other state in distributing federal COVID-relief aid to renters, according to U.S. Department of the Treasury data. While Virginia is proud of this work, we are continuing to work to streamline the process further to assist more Virginians through this program.

Effective December 1, 2021, the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) will begin administering the program for both landlords and tenants. DHCD is working with Virginia Interactive, a digital service provider who will offer an updated, secure and user-friendly portal known as Gov2Go.

Important details include:

• Virginia Housing and DEVAL will no longer accept applications or contract amendments through their portals after 11:59 p.m. on November 30, 2021, but will continue to process pending applications or amendments already in process prior to that time.
• Applications already in process will remain active and those that are still pending on December 30, 2021, will be transitioned automatically to the Gov2Go portal.
• With this new system, both tenants and landlords will enter all new applications in one location/portal, further streamlining the application process. This approach will allow for more detailed, frequent automated communication and status updates.
• Using the portal, landlords and tenants will be able to access status updates on landlord-initiated as well as tenant-initiated applications.

This technology change will ensure tenants and landlords have access to needed rent relief information even faster and easier than before. This will include important payment details and the status of any tenant-initiated or landlord-initiated applications.

Accessing the New Portal

Starting on Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at 12 a.m., landlords and tenants can obtain new login information and learn to apply through the new portal. Instructions on how to access the Gov2Go portal are forthcoming.
