Community Manager
AvalonBay Communities

How long have you been an NVAA member for?
Almost a year!

Tell us about yourself and what you do:
I have been with AvalonBay Communities over 9 years, starting as an Intern Consultant and rising to a Community Manager! I've been lucky enough to work at several communities all across Fairfax County, with a variety of unique experiences from rebuilding after a large-scale fire to brand new construction and lease up. No two days have ever been the same, and it's been an exciting and eventful career!

Why are you an NVAA member?
The opportunity to join NVAA was presented to me by a previous manager of mine who felt it would be a great chance to learn more from other young leaders in our industry. I couldn't agree more! Though I have only attended one meeting thus far, I look forward to gaining new perspectives and insight to property management.

What do you get from your NVAA membership?

The chance to bounce ideas off other members, especially in the midst of this "new normal," is a great opportunity to better the experience of not only our teams we are managing, but also the residents in our communities.

What is a benefit you receive as a member of NVAA that you can’t receive anywhere else?
The Young Professionals Committee allows us to network with some of the most engaging minds of our industry in Northern Virginia. The opportunity to share our experiences and potentially solve ongoing problems in our industry is unique and definitely one I am excited to participate in.

Where did you grow up?
I was born and raised in Richmond, Virginia, though I moved to several places around the area. I went to six different schools until I graduated high school, where I eventually moved up to Northern Virginia to attend George Mason University.

What is something fun you like to do?
I love attending live events, especially sporting events! I'm a lifelong fan of the Philadelphia Eagles, so the NFL has a prominent role in my life (especially fantasy football!)

What do you most like about your job?
I enjoy problem solving and making improvements to better the overall resident experience. Every day brings a new challenge, and I'm thankful for my teams that have helped me develop new ways of thinking and overcoming those challenges on a daily basis.

And anything else you would like the members to know about you.
I'm always looking for new events and fun concepts to bring to my communities and for our residents! My email is always open to anyone looking to exchange ideas!
